handbag

‘Tree by Lily’ - A tongue-in-cheek marriage of form and function, this fully operational handbag is made entirely of wood and uses traditional joinery to achieve its sturdy frame. The body of the purse features hand-cut half-blind dovetails and decorative inlay, while the purse closure comes from a single piece of Baltic birch plywood that has been laser cut to form a lattice hinge. Each individual link of the chain handle was also laser cut from Baltic birch plywood before being assembled by hand.

This piece is currently on display in the 2024 Exhibition: Then & Now at North Bennet Street School in Boston, running through Saturday, August 10th.
